30 Things I’ve Learned in 30 Years

“Life’s tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.”

– Benjamin Franklin.

Let’s face it: Most of us never look forward to turning 30.

The twenties is a time when we are encouraged to fail, make mistakes and get to know who we are.

When we are 30 however, we are adults and there’s no room for any of that. We are responsible, mature citizens contributing to society.

I thought I would feel that shift when I turned 30, but I don’t.

I feel like I’m still at the beginning of my journey of growth and finding my path.

I felt called to write a list of everything life has taught me. You might agree with some, and not so much with others, as we are all on our different paths (I’d love to hear your life lessons in the comments later!)

Without further ado, here are 30 things I’ve learned in 30 years.
30 things I've learned in 30 years

30 Things I’ve Learned In 30 Years

1. Authentic happiness is WITHIN our very being.

Happiness is not something outside of us that we have to chase.

2. You are always guided by your higher self through intuition, and the more you ignore it, the more resistance you meet in life.

We all have things we believe we “should” do but don’t feel right.

I have professional experience as a translator, so in my 20s tried to become a successful translator freelancer as I thought that is the logical thing to do. I really hated it and met so much resistance on the way there.

My dream was to be a blogger but I told myself excuses not to do it, like “it’s too late” and “there are too many competitors”.

Eventually, I summoned my bravery and started this blog. I met my boyfriend who happened to be a blogger and he taught me the ropes.

The Universe will help you with your purpose, you just have to be brave enough to get started.

3. Let your soul guide you, not your mind.

Your ego-mind is a terrible master but a great servant. Meditation is a great tool to get more in touch with your soul.

4. No matter how many “adult points” you have collected, you never feel like an adult.

I bought my first house last year and got my driver’s license many years ago, but it still feels like I am playing pretend (if you are older, let me know in the comments if this ever changes!)

5. To succeed with your morning routine, start embarrassingly small.

For example, if you want to start a mediation habit, start with 1 min of meditation every morning.

If you want to get stronger arms, start with 1 push-up as soon as you wake up. Consistency is key.

6. Overcoming your fear of failure, and learning from your failures, is the key to business success.

At the start of my entrepreneur journey, I started a dropshipping store. I spent a year just changing the fonts and product descriptions, as I was terrified of getting things wrong.

“The more you fail, the faster you learn.”

I have learned over the years that action is more important than getting things perfect.

7. For a peaceful mind, keep your home tidy.

I’ve finally made the connection that when my house is tidy, I feel more peaceful, so I need to make an effort to keep the home clean.

This is why monks spend so much time cleaning. Check out the book A Monk’s Guide to a Clean House and Mind if you want to learn more.

8. The more things you own, the more they own you.

Living light is something I learned being a nomad most of my twenties.

The lesson became even deeper when I settled down into a house in England, found out about something amazing called Amazon Prime, and went on a buying frenzy for a year until I realized the things didn’t make me happy.

It became harder to find things, cleaning took longer and the clutter made me stressed.

I became a minimalist and felt so much better. Watch my Extreme Minimalist Youtube playlist here.

9. Set up some streams of passive income.

I feel so much more in control of my life since I started earning passive income, as I can take time off work when I want to.

I earn passive income through my Youtube video ads, affiliate links, blog post ads, and e-books.

Other popular passive income streams are stock dividends, dropshipping store and renting out a room or home.

10. To change a habit, give money to a friend if you don’t succeed with your goal.

This will keep you accountable. You can set this up with the Stickk app

I am doing this with my boyfriend, to make sure I stick to my daily meditation habits, and it works SO well. He gets 5 dollars every day I fail.

11. Cleaning day can be enjoyable when you turn it into an act of mindfulness.

I used to outsource cleaning but was met with so much resistance from the Universe when I did. The cleaning ladies from the agency kept getting sick, quit, had to cancel and at one point spilled a whole bottle of chemicals into the carpet.

So I and my partner decided to clean ourselves and make it into a mindfulness exercise with calming music and ending with an energetic cleanse with incense and singing bowls. Now I (almost) look forward to cleaning day!

12. Make time to do nothing.

As the Capricorn I am, I LOVE working. I have a tendency to overwork, and I used to feel almost guilty taking time off work.

But what I learned the last few years when I forced myself to take more time off work, is that it actually benefits my business MORE when I take breaks!

Not only does it help recharge me but my best business ideas have come to me on walks in nature, sipping tea in on the porch and in the jacuzzi during spa breaks.

This is when moments of sudden inspiration and insights are presented to us.

13. The best diet for humans is one rich in whole foods.

I have tried almost every diet out there and there are so many disagreements.

“The paleo diet worships eggs, while the vegan diet says it will give you a heart attack.”

So I looked at what the major diets all agree on and it’s that we should avoid processed foods and eat more whole.

So next time you’re in the grocery store, ask yourself if it grows. Choose that over products with a long list of ingredients.

14. The more you meditate, the better decisions you take.

Last year I meditated 30 minutes every day, and the difference it made to my mind chatter was mind-blowing (see what I did there?).

Our minds mostly repeat thoughts we have already thought before, but now that I have a daily meditation practice I have found myself so much more present and clear-headed.

15. Regular digital detox is crucial for a peaceful life.

Use website and ad blockers like Cold Turkey as it’s difficult to go through with it otherwise.

16. Don’t try to follow fashion trends.

If you have your own style your clothes never go out of fashion.

I only own 20 clothing pieces now and I love all of them. See my minimalist capsule wardrobe here.

17. Order your groceries online.

This saves so much time and removes the temptation of checkout sweets. I order my groceries at Asda here in the UK, but most grocery chains offer this nowadays.

18. Make your passion your work and work will never feel like work.

I feel so blessed to have my hobby as my work, and I believe everyone can achieve this. It’s never too late to make changes in your work life.

Just because you have a degree or professional experience in a certain field, doesn’t mean you have to spend your whole life in it. Before you know it you are on your death bed, regretting you didn’t follow your dream.

Ckeck out my blog post on how to find your passion and monetize it.

30 things i learned

19. Live within your means.

Do this by using debit cards instead of credit cards and set up automatic investments.

20. Invest in a stainless steel water bottle and take it with you everywhere you go to stay hydrated.

It’s so easy to forget to drink otherwise, and staying hydrated is key to a healthy life.

You want to avoid plastic bottles for your health and the environment.

21. To keep your vibes high, pick comedies over scary movies when you’re on Netflix.

Your brain can’t tell the difference between reality and the film, which causes the scary movie to increase your stress hormones. I have never liked scary movies much anyways. My favorite comedy series on Netflix is The Office and Superstore.

22. For glowing skin, avoid white sugar.

I have noticed a direct correlation between the two. If you’re baking, pick less processed sugars like raw honey, coconut sugar or maple syrup.

23. Focus on getting good sleep.

You can remove caffeine and naps from your life if you are well-rested. The first step is to get a good sleep tracker.

I cannot live without my Oura ring! Every morning I wake up to check my Sleep Score and Readiness Score. This will determine how active I will be that day.

24. You attract The One when you’ve learned to love yourself.

I used to read books and listen to podcast to learn the dating game – what to text guys, the appropriate time to wait before becoming intimate, what to wear etc.

That got me nowhere. My dating life waas still a disaster.

It was first after I focused on loving myself that I met my twin flame Stef.

To learn more about twin flames, check out my blog post 50 Twin Flame Signs.

25. Avoid reading the news, to keep your vibes high.

Instead, ask your friends and family to keep you updated.

27. Every time you get triggered, ask yourself if there is a wound in you or insecurity that needs healing.

When we meet other people they mirror us and teach us lessons.

The relationships in your life are not a coincidence. It was planned pre-birth that they would come into your life and teach you things (they are often not aware of it themselves!), for your soul growth.

Take a few deep breaths before you snap at someone. Try to stay calm and go inwards to reflect if it could be an ego issue there, that’s causing this reaction.

28. Pay attention when you are thought-obsessing.

Write it down in your journal or put it into perspective so you can let it go.

29. There are no better stress-reliefs than a walk in the forest and a warm bath with lavender oil.

I love Forest bathing, a concept originating in Japan. You simply go into the forest with a present mind, taking in the sounds and smells. It really calms my nerves and recharges me.

30. Celebrate often and don’t take life too seriously.

It is such a blessing being alive on Earth in these exciting times. On higher dimensions, there are not food and you can’t experience the same adrenaline rush, so enjoy it!

Conclusion

Those were the 30 things I’ve learned in 30 years. If you liked this list, you might also want to check out my post 28 Things I’ve Learned In 28 Years.

And I’ll leave you with this quote to reflect on:
