Signs You’re Experiencing “Soul Loss”
Sadly, in our modern world, experiencing “soul loss” is a very common thing. But what is this “soul loss” anyway? Is it important and is there a way to retrieve it?
What are the signs of soul loss?
When you begin to experience feelings of weakness, exhaustion, despair, anxiety, and emptiness, that means you’re experiencing “soul loss”. You just know something is lacking in your life, but many of us struggle to figure out what it is.
Soul loss meaning
In contemporary culture, a strange phenomenon known as “Soul Loss” affects people of all ages, genders, ethnicities, and cultures.
When we suffer from Soul Loss, a portion of our Soul hides or shuts down, preventing us from expressing and experiencing our real potential and wholeness as human beings. Often, entire parts of our minds are shut off or suppressed.
When we identify with our egos, we try to feel complete again through addictions, stimulation seeking, opposing worldviews, conditioned relationships, and workaholism. When this happens, we lose touch with our souls.
However, there is a reason we identify with the ego and disassociate from the soul in the first place.
What causes soul loss
So what causes soul loss?
For millennia, indigenous people have been aware of the possibility of Soul Loss and understand it as the effect of an inner disintegration caused by a traumatic experience or an intense shock to the mind and body.
According to therapist De-Andrea Blaylock-Johnson, LCSW, as a result of trauma, the person is left feeling disconnected, fractured, or apparently distinct from their body.
Shauna Cummins, hypnotist and author of WishCraft, says this can happen at any time and can also build up gradually. When we become burned out, stray from our mission, or encounter anything distressing, the soul might “disconnect.”
The drive to feel complete, although usually through self-deprecating behaviors, is a survival mechanism to guarantee that we are loved, accepted, cared for, avoid suffering, and so on.
Most people who have addictive or escapism tendencies think they are trash for being like that, not knowing that these behaviors could be stemming from trauma.
According to research, children with a history of trauma are four to twelve times more likely to develop drug addiction, alcoholism, mental health problems, and even suicidal ideation.
To function, we must create a sense of self, a unique sense of “me” in the environment. However, having an ego means that we lose touch with the true essence of who we truly are: the Soul.
Soul loss retrieval
Now you know that souls can get “lost,” or at the very least divided in such a way that they leave one feeling incomplete. This is usually caused by tragedy or trauma
In soul loss shamanism, a person is often helped through the process of retrieving a lost soul by an experienced shaman.
The shaman will enter a state of heightened consciousness, go to the unseen realms of spirit, locate the soul, and then proceed to address whatever caused the soul to fragment. They’ll then bring the soul back into this plane.
If you don’t have the time or resources for shamanic soul retrieval, you can also do it on your own. We’ll get to that later.
